Such a great and uplifting piece, thank you Chloe. This reminds me of a book that explores topics along these lines I've read last year, "Rest Is Resistance: Free yourself from grind culture and reclaim your life" by Tricia Hersey.

so glad you enjoyed it Ramona, thank you for your kind words! I love Tricia's work, it's been hugely inspirational for me. not sure if you've ever heard her talk, she's amazing! there's a great gLennon Doyle podcast with her, her nap sermons are amazing.

You're very welcome! I actually haven't listened to her, I'm more of a reader and don't really listen to podcasts, but I'll give this a go right away :)

What a treat, Chloe and Layla. And so needed at this time of year too. I've only recently started a yoga nidra practice where I set a meditation soundtrack for 30 mins and lie in bed propped up with bolsters and pillows under my heated blanket with my noise-cancelling headphones on and an eye mask. It feels a bit lit sensory deprivation, or at least dialling-down any chance of stimulation from the outside world.

A proper retreat. Sometimes I sleep, but often I couldn't tell you if I did or not. I've felt held and been able to just be with myself in a totally different way, even, from how I felt "going for a nap" before (which never worked out or if it did, left me groggy).

I use Endel for my soundscape as it gently rouses you with a different kind of tone from the one you set as the sound for however long you're using it. Have either of you come across it? I also use it for working to!

wow, I've never come across Endel, it sounds wonderful, I'm listening to a track now as I'm typing... there is a difference, isn't there between dozing/napping and doing the nidra... your mini retreats sound wonderful, I think I'm going to try and do more of this on a regular basis. reset the nervous system. Chloe has recorded a nidra I'm sharing tomorrow for subscribers, so we can both give that a go too! x

ooh no me neither, I'm going to download Endel now. v interesting about how this kind of rest feels non-groggy unlike some naps. I feel totally different after nidra too, refreshed in a way that a 20 min nap would never do. imagine something to do with brain waves or sleep pressure or circadian rhythms or something?!

This was magic, thank you both!! I never ever used to nap but these days if I get an opportunity and I need it, I will always prioritise sleep above all else, as I know it will affect how I feel for the rest of the day. It has been a massive learning (along with so many things) in motherhood. Everything here was fascinating, thank you for your wonderful insights Chloe. I also LOVE Yoga Nidra but have only really begun to use it as a part of my toolkit recently thanks to Lauren Barber’s beautiful recordings, they take me somewhere unknown and I always feel deeply nourished xx

@Chloe George ‘s piece was fascinating wasn’t it? so much food for thought. and nidra, yes, somehow we rest even deeper than with a nap… thanks for sharing lyndsay x

thank you for super kind words Lyndsay! yes motherhood forces these learnings, however resistant we are! I must try some of Lauren Barber's nidras <3 I'm excited to listen to Layla and Lauren's conversation about human design, something I know nothing about!

Oh wow I really loved this. And needed it, as I read it from bed at home sick with a cold wondering how I fill the day ahead. The answer, naturally, is to rest. Thank you!!

love this Sinéad - not that you were poorly but how the answer is often right in front of us! gosh we are out of practice with rest aren't we, I feel that all the time. hope you had a restful day and glad you're feeling better.
