I can relate to so much of this, Layla, and while I'm away from home has been making similar contradictory, revelatory/mundane lists of what I'm seeing/thinking/feeling. It's fascinating what the mind does when we're out of our normal routines, isn't it!

I love this because this is exactly what our minds do. We are a jumble of paradoxes. I think my mind is like this most days and if I have made any progress in 20 years of meditating it's knowing this to be true and not being so afraid of it.

Yes! That’s it Claire, less about trying to shut it all down and more about being aware of what’s happening

Wow Layla! You have such a sense of humour! Loved reading. I feel less alone in the monkey’s family with short nails, blue jeans and black t shirt (no shoes possibly).

No shoes as much as possible, yes! 🙌 💙

Oh my. This gave me a giggle. Plus: nice shoes! Plus: Nice neckerchief! Plus: hello to your sisters. Plus: Gosh, do I need to care more about my skincare routine!? I am off to London next week. Better get my wardrobe ready.

I’m glad, it was meant to be not too serious! I care not very much about my skin care routine until I go out into the bright lights of the world and then start getting all of a tizzz. Back home now, vaguely washing face twice a day! enjoy your trip!!! x

I talk to my little dog a lot and discovered some of my monkey brain thoughts had started to be said out loud recently, on our walks….in public…. 🫢😱😂

I love it! Superficiality and duplicity are a pretty fun part of what makes us human. Bring it on, yes I want to hear more x

P.S. The green shirt and sneakers combo is rad (that still means 'great', right?!). I can barely tolerate the constant monochrome and varying shades of beige the kids, mine included, wear these days. Makes me want to turn up my colour addiction to even more intense and vibrant hues..

Thanks Rachel - yes, it is sort of fun once we are aware of it for what it is I think!

My 10 year daughter's friend called my coat 'slay' which made me feel pretty cool ! I'll take 'rad' any day too! :-) and YES to more colour in the world, god knows we need it ! x

Absolutely! I love getting a 'slay' from my daughter and when I'm on the receiving end of a 'slay queen' from her, I feel fulfilled as a parent and a human being, honestly! I can feel the crown and it's magical. The kids are good at that mutual celebration talk.

This is wonderful.. and relatable… and I love the Green trainer/Green t shirt combo! I too have all these conflicting thoughts… I wonder if some of it is our open centres amplifying and inspiring and giving us access to so many thoughts and perspectives? Thank you for the insight into your mind… makes me feel less scattered in my own self for having multiple different outlooks!! Xx

I do this all the time!! So comfortable and confident in my own space then step out into the “real world” and feel so out of it now! But I am 100% happier and healthier in my own bubble but it is amazing that pull to fit in, but that’s an old story calling. Can definitely relate to all the beeping and scanning.. much rather be in the slow lane xx ps I loved all your outfits, you looked fabulous to me xx

It’s fascinating to see all those monkey mind thoughts written down, and I relate to so many of them. Especially the way my thoughts change when I’m in a big city - used to live in Newcastle, now live in the (relative) sticks and every time I’m back I wonder why I ever left, decide I’d be much cooler if I’d stayed, feel so thankful I don’t live there anymore, and come home with a long wish list of clothes and shoes.
