Oof, Layla and Easkey, what a gift of a conversation! So much in it, but one highlight was to learn that I carry bacteria in my microbiome that make me akin to a marine mammal – mind blown!
Also, about the shock of cold water and how it creates both stress and release, allowing for connection with something much bigger than us – I just finished reading Come Together, by Emily Nagoski. In the last chapter, she writes about this 'magic trick' that our bodies can do by building up and spreading out tension, in order to access this place beyond, which sounds very much like what Easkey was talking about. Not sure I'm making sense, need to tease this out a little!
Will definitely check out Come Together… my mind is blown by the wonder of water everyday! The research was by Dr Cliff Kapono, Hawaiian surfer and biochemist, his PhD is called the Surfer Biome project and that was one of his findings, so remarkable… Especially the evidence that now seems to support how our microbiome deeply affects our mood and mental state…, so much to ponder!
YES so much to ponder - and when we hear these facts' they somehow just feel so right in our bodies don't they? a perfect reinforcement of what we innately know
This was so beautiful to listen to today, I loved that simple idea of just listening to water as a practice, I wouldn’t ever class myself as a watery person but I feel as I am getting older more drawn to bodies of water, not to get in but just to BE with. Really enjoyed this, thank you xxx
