Hello friends,
How are you all?
I’m dropping into your inboxes out of my normal rhythm to share two exciting, connected bits of info with you.
Firstly, I’m getting more and more excited about my upcoming chat with
, and about desire, anger, our bodies, our relationships, our shifting sense of self in mid-life.We’ll be using Miranda July’s brilliantly bawdy, sexy, wise and witty new novel All Fours as a jumping off point to talk about everything from female friendships to the idea of unravelling to becoming invisible (or not…!) as we get older. We are doing this live, because we’d love to have you be a part of the conversation - we’re pretty sure you all have lots to say, too.
Here’s the info :
When :: Friday, 18 October 19:30 BST (work out your timezone here)
Where :: Live on zoom (recording will be available)
How :: Click HERE to join Zoom Meeting
Meeting ID: 896 8491 6969 / Passcode: 850695
(I’ll send a wee reminder on Friday, too)
Because of this upcoming call, and also because there’s been such a fascinating response to my most recent post on starting to take HRT, I’ve decided to lift the paywall on the post for the next week. If this is something you are interested in reading (or listening to, there’s an audio recording as well), you can dive in this week, and please do let me know your thoughts in the comments, I’d love to hear.
Here are what some of you have been saying over in the comments:
Want to read some more in and around ideas of desire, dreams and how we feel in our own skin?
Thanks everyone, hope to see some of you on the call this Friday!

Hooray! I'm going to share this with my own subscribers now, Layla. Cannot wait to get right in about it with you, Caro, Chloe and our communities on Friday night.
I have just listened to your HRT piece... and I have nodded along, mouthing Yes...Exactly....Yes! throughout. I am 38, perimenopausal, 1 year postnatal, also have a 12 year old pre-teen daughter. Each one a major threshold of hormonal change. Maiden, mother, crone...As a women's health physio I have worked with thousands of women who are as you put it so perfectly the 'canaries in the coal mines', feeling anger and overwhelm in response to the demands of 'life', but really it's the demands of life in this particular society. How many of us would revel in the idea of a slower pace, a simpler life without all the activities and things we 'have' to do. My response is becoming too long so that means you have inspired me to write a long-form post. Thank you Layla for your truth-speaking and wisdom-sharing 🙏
